Stroke, Killer No.3 in Indonesia
Cases of stroke increased in developed countries like America, where obesity and junk food has become an epidemic. Based on U.S. statistics, every year there 750,000 new stroke cases in the United States. From these data show that every 45 minutes, there was one person in America who suffered a stroke.
According to the Stroke Foundation Indonesia (Yastroki), there is a tendency increasing number of people with stroke in Indonesia in the last decade. Tendency to attack the young generation who are still productive. This will have an impact on decreasing the level of productivity and can lead to social and economic disruption of the family.
Can not be denied that the increase in the number of stroke patients in Indonesia is identical to the epidemic of obesity due to a diet rich in fat or cholesterol that swept across the world, Indonesia is no exception.
In Indonesia, a stroke is a disease lethal number three after heart disease and cancer. In fact, according to a survey in 2004, stroke is the no.1 killer in government hospitals throughout Indonesia.
There are an estimated 500,000 people affected by stroke. Of these, a third recover, another third have a functional disorder of mild to moderate and the remaining third have severe functional disorder that requires continuous patient on the mattress.
Serebrovaskuler diseases including stroke (brain blood vessel) which is marked by the death of brain tissue (cerebral infarction) occur because of reduced blood flow and oxygen to the brain. WHO defines that stroke is a deficit symptoms of nervous system function caused by brain vascular disease and not by others than that.
